- Winter Mountaineering Trip |
“ What a week! We are all absolutely shattered but exhilarated! I never knew my body had such adrenalin. Kayaking, rock climbing, lunching with the seals – what better way to spend you holiday. Fabulous instruction from Mike, great group, lovely food & accommodation. Thanks for a great holiday – will definitely be back & will recommend this to all my chums”
Sarah Clark ~ Inner Sound Kayak Expedition
“A spectacular trip through an inhospitable, Arctic landscape. We encountered a full range of mountain weather from blizzard conditions and total whiteout to brilliant sunshine and fantastic views. I didn't expect to be coming back from the hills with a suntan! The hospitality and friendliness shown to me by everyone has made this trip truly memorable”

One group left us this diary summary of the Inner Sound Kayak Expedition . . .
“Blazing Paddles – 29 July – 2nd August 2002”
Highlights: Puffins, Minky Whales, Porpoise, Arctic Terns, Seals, Kittiwakes, an otter, & Wild Chanterelle mushrooms at camp.
Sunday - Day 1 ~ training & splashing about in the bay, Applecross
Monday ~ kayak trip to seal colony and coral beach, fantastic sunshine and wildlife.
Tuesday ~ Set off on long distance trip across open water to the Isle of Raasay. Saw two whales! ( or was it the same whale twice!) Camped at Brochel Castle.
Wednesday ~ Spent day sleeping, collecting mushrooms and paddled on down the Raasay shoreline one the wind had dropped. Spent the night on the south end of Raasay at a fireside camp. Ate the Chanterelle mushrooms with our meal – yum!
Thursday ~ Out peering at the sea from about 4am waiting for the right conditions. Wind dropped by 12 noon! …and the blazing paddles set off over the Inner Sound to the Crowlin Islands. Lighthouse in sight and the 8km crossing made in just over an hour with a fair breeze pushing us. Not bad. Applecross here we come!
