Testimonials

"There are not enough words to describe the elation on completing the ridge. Your knowledge and care and input was the sole reason I managed this. It was bigger, longer and more exhausting than I imagined. You kept me going and were consistent in your support and care from the first hour to until hour 28! Many thanks Mike. I'll be back for some winter adventures" Cameron Mc Grath

Trip Description

This is the single most demanding and rewarding mountain expedition of its kind in Scotland and as such requires a high degree of mountain fitness, good movement on exposed ridges and some abseiling experience.

Our success rate is very high and largely depends upon a combination of our excellent local knowledge, good weather and group or individual fitness.

After leading in with some training on the first day, we'll stock the middle section of the ridge on day 2 with overnight supplies in preparation for the traverse on days 3 or 4.

When the weather is right we’ll transfer over to Skye and bivouac overnight during the traverse attempt.

Given a good weather window we may even go for the traverse earlier taking opportunity where it arises.

This is a unique trip and only a small number of people, each summer, are able to say they've traversed the main Black Cuillin ridge.

So if its been on your bucket list for a while drop us an email and we can take the first step towards helping you to achieve the most fulfilling mountain trip you'll ever do in the British Isles.

The fully inclusive package or the self cater bunkhouse deal as shown are both based in Lochcarron on the nearby mainland. We travel to the Cuillin, over the bridge , each day.

If you opt for the trip only choice:

then you can either stay independently in Lochcarron where we'll pick you up each day.

If you want to  stay on Skye accommodation options are plentiful and we recommend using either the Sligachean Hotel or the Old Inn Carbost.

There are also bunkhouses at both locations. Several B&Bs are also based in the vicinity of the Cuillin Ridge.

If you want to camp and be picked up each day

Typical Itinerary

Day One: Training day featuring abseil safety and self rescue using Prussiks and other methods. Use of protection, slings and anchors. We'll also have a safe movement session looking at climbing techniques and good practice on exposed alpine ground. Short roping and moving together skills will be covered all of which are very important for the Scottish winter or summer in the Alps.

Day Two: A short ascent to the Bealach na Banachdich to leave overnight equipment such as sleeping bags, food, water and fuel.

Days Three to Five: We're scrutinizing the weather to find a window for the traverse attempt so as to maximise our success.
