Trip Description

Sea kayaking in Croatia means crystal blue waters and blue skies

“On the last day of creation, God decided to crown His work, and thus created the Kornati islands out of tears, stars and breath” — George Bernard Shaw

Our venue is just south of the Zadar and Pag Island area within an hours drive to the Paklenica National Park. No sea kayak experience is needed for the trip but it is an advantage to have used and had instruction in paddle use prior to taking part. We aim to teach skills on day one as well as guide you through the clear Croatian waters on a 5 day island hopping expedition. As with all of our sea kayak expeditions across the globe this is a big trip with long paddle days and as such you need to be upper body fit in preparation for a sea kayak expedition.

With up to 147 islands, and uninhabited coves and shorelines, the Kornati Islands National Park offers the largest and densest archipelago in the Adriatic. With unspoilt nature, benefiting from the protection of the park status, these islands are stunning. We base ourselves in the village of Pakostane where you can choose one of two package options:  the Nord See campsite in the village of Pakostane which is well facilitated with a bar and restaurant onsite and has its own little beach providing an ideal start & finish point for our expedition (trip option 1).

Alternatively there is apartment accommodation in Pakostane (trip option 2) during the non expedition days. Cheap flights are available to Croatia and the nearest airport is Zadar which is currently served from Stansted with Ryanair. EasyJet flies to Split currently only on Sundays. If you want to see a bit of the country then train and bus connections from Zagreb and Split, to Pakostane (south of Zadar) are available.

Typical Itinerary

Saturday: Group members arrive from various locations: usually on the late afternoon Ryanair flight. Transfer arranged for those arriving at airport who've pre-booked this.

Sunday: Paddling around the Pakostane area learning the basics, traning and practicing for your expedition.

Monday: Crossing of the Vrgadski Canal to camp North of Kosara Island. Enjoy the beauty of the crystal clear waters and rough, limestone shore lines in the knowledge of escaping civilisation for a week.

Tuesday: Continue across the Sitski Canal to get into the Kornati Archipeligo and various campsites with spectacular, awe inspiring cliff scenery.

Wednesday: Explore the Western Cliffs of the Telascica Peninsula - spectacular paddling on the edge of the Adriatic. Look out over the expansive sea and imagine heading towards the out of sight Italy. Second night at Uvala Mir (Peace Bay)

Thursday: Return through the Archipeligo towards the Croatian mainland to camp on our own small island: only shared with the wild goats!

Friday: Cross the Vrgadski Canal and return to Pakostane to finish ready for a slap up meal at one of the beautiful restaurants in the village.

Saturday: Fly home (or stay on in Croatia and explore the inland lakes and mountains)

Please note: the above itinerary is a guide only as actual plans will be flexible to suit group & prevailing weather.

Suitable For

Anyone with good fitness ( regular upper body exercise pre-trip essential!) wanting to experience sea kayaking with a longer camping/expedition element.
Although the conditions in Croatia are generally quite easy we do paddle in windy conditions requiring a good positive approach to sea kayaking - in short, this is a proper sea kayak expedition and you may get tired arms! This is also a great format for groups or friends - we can run a week specifically for you with a minimum group size of 6.

Drop us an email and we can chat about your requirements or date choices.
