Testimonials

" a serene and stunning location cradled by mountains. Thanks for a memorable few days. I really enjoyed the white sandy beaches of the Sandaig islands and the Porpoises at the head of Loch Hourn" James Hardy July 2014

" my wife and I, along with our kids, did this trip and can recommend it as a great family holiday. Just so much to see and we appreciated your care and patience with the youngsters. We even saw an otter at the Sandaig islands - particularly good as we'd watched Ring of Bright water the week before with the kids. 10/10" George Williams Aug 2014

Trip Description

As a step up from our Inner Sound expedition this four day trip is is the perfect way to explore Loch Hourn. We'll pack and prep on meeting on the morning of the first day and then head to the start point at Arnisdale, Loch Hourn prior to paddling off to the first night wild camp.

Days two to four will be spent on expedition where we paddle the full length of Loch Hourn inland before heading west to the open Sound of Sleat and the Sandaig islands

(famous as the location where Gavin Maxwell lived and which features in his 'Ring of Bright Water' book and film).

Experience wild camping on the shingle and sandy shores and beaches of Loch Hourn. Enjoy homemade, fresh food, campfires and the breathtaking mountains of the Knoydart wilderness.

Famed for its wildness and beauty, Knoydart and its Northern shores offer scenic sea paddling like no other. Inland to the east the Loch narrows to a mere 50 metres at Loch Beag and 5 kilometres wide at the western open sea entrance to the Sound of Sleat.

Along the full length of the Loch beaches, islands and woodlands make for some fantastic varied scenery and some great wild camping spots.

Experience Level: You will need to have been in a kayak previously and have a good idea of some of the basic paddle skills so as to use a tandem kayak, or, have a good grasp of all the steering and recovery/bracing skills for a single kayak experience.

On a three night expedition in the sheltered sea loch this presents a chance to paddle in one of the great wilderness areas of Scotland and to build confidence towards longer kayak trips and expeditions.

Monday morning pack up in Applecross, drive to Loch Hourn to paddle to camp 1
Tuesday to Thursday continueing on expedition
