Paddlers with very good fitness - regular upper body exercise pre-trip essential.
This is a meet, pack and paddle trip. You need to present yourself with the correct level of self reliant paddle skills so you can meet the demands of the programme without limiting the rest of the group. If you wish to have a single kayak then you need to be at 3 star level with roughwater practice and touring time under your belt. If you are a fairly basic advanced beginner then you can still join the expedition but will be in a double kayak.
Just wanted to say thank you for the Norwegian Expedition, we had such a good time. June 2011
On the morning of departure Mike (Mountain and Sea Guides head honcho) gathered the group together for a pre-trip briefing. I’ve been on expedition with Mike before (Rassay and Rona), and find him to be very friendly, relaxed and approachable, but utterly professional as and when required: the perfect combination of skills for an expedition leader. If you have the paddling skills and are half thinking about this trip, do it. I can guarantee that the scenery will be some of the most spectacular you will ever see. It left most of us open mouthed for much of the trip. If you don’t have the required paddling skills, have a word with Mike as I feel sure he will be able to recommend a route forward so that you can acquire the required skills. Now get on and decide which trip you are going to take with Mountain and Sea Guides. D.Speck

150 -200 km north of the Arctic Circle lies the chain of rocky peaks known as the Lofoten islands. As you paddle along beside sheer waterfalls the mountains simply appear out of the sea punctuated by sandy beaches offering easy landings and amazing wild camps where you can sit in this mesmerising scenery, talking about the day and eating freshly made, home cooking.
Puffins, Seals and other arctic wildlife live in the deep fjords of the archipelago. Our ultimate expedition plan will be decided along with local weather plans when we meet you in Lofoten. The main aim of the week is to paddle into Trollfjorden spending several days exploring the fjords and mountains and wild camping along the way.
Not Included
Your return travel from the UK to Norway. You will also need to be self sufficient with a light tent for the expedition and personal eating utensils: all of which can be hired locally if you’d rather not carry them during your travel.
