There are a range of great local walks, both long and short, challenging and not so. These cover our wonderful beaches and hills along with the Applecross Estate.
Go Flora & Fauna spotting
We are very lucky in Applecross to be surrounded by a beautiful natural environment which is home to a plethora of flora and fauna. Try and spot a native wild animal, e.g. Red deer, eagles, otters, seals, dolphins. Once here you can see our wildlife book in the bar for other's experiences or ask our staff for their top tips!
Go to the Beach
Even in our sometimes inclement weather the beach can offer an invigorating way to spend some time. We have 3 main options within the village, Arbain and Corrieghille near Ardubh which are unusual in that they are white shell beach (coral) rather than sand, 'the head of the Bay' which is a mixture of sand and shale and Sand beach which is a beautiful stretch of sand with a dune. Arbain/Corrieghillie lie 2.5 miles South of the Inn along the main road then it is a track path for about a mile. The head of the bay is about a 10 minute walk along from the Inn, to the North. The Sand beach is approximately 7 miles North of the Inn on our coast road. It can be reached by the main road or by a spectacular hill path, refer to the walking information referred to above.
For the Children
In addition to the 26,000 hectares which make up the Applecross peninsula where children can explore and play, we also have a couple of playparks for the wee ones. One is situated at the Village Hall, about 1 mile south of the Inn and the second is situated at the campsite, just outside the Flower Tunnel. The Estate also offer a 'tree house' behind the Walled Garden which sits amongst some accessible woods to enjoy.
Weekly sessions are held in the Village Hall, about 1 mile south of the Inn. Join the locals for some friendly competition!
